Dornoch is home to numerous cafes and its hotels provide several restaurants. The food at the golf club is well above par and don't pass a sign for Capaldi's ices without popping in (the raspberry is particularly delicious). Here's a short list of some of our favourites. Booking a table is highly advisable during the peak Summer holiday period. And we have to put in a word for the brilliant Dornoch Stores on Castle Street - lovely people and shelves packed with the sort of food and drink that makes it feel indulgent to eat at home. tel: 01862 810301 https://en-gb.facebook.com/dornochstores/
By day a cafe serving homemade cakes, soups, pizzas, fresh salads and seasonal specials, by night a restaurant with a contemporary European menu emphasising Scottish seafood and fresh ingredients. Cafe open daily at 10am. Dinner served 6.45pm - 9pm nightly in Summer months, weekends and additional evenings during Spring and Autumn. Good snacks, good dinners, relaxed and really friendly.

The Oystercatcher (Portmahomack)
A high quality seafood restaurant specialising in locally caught shellfish and doing it very well. Mostly open Wednesday to Sunday but do check and do book. Reportedly not doing lunch time opening in 2017 which is a shame as lunch was not as pricey as dinner. Further afield but worth the half hour drive for both food and location. Can seem idyllic with an outdoor table on the harbourside on a calm, sunny day.

La Mirage (Helmsdale)
This fish and chip restaurant (with take away if you prefer to eat on the harbour wall at the river mouth) is a Highland institution. Retro menu, retro soundtrack, kitsch decor and very generous portions of excellent haddock and chips and other familiar classics. Open for lunch and dinner and forty minutes drive away with sea views all the way.
